Veterinary Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient practice of stimulating specific points on the body to achieve a desired effect. The International Veterinary Acupuncture Society trains and certifies licensed veterinarians to use this modality to treat companion animals.

At Rivertown Animal Hospital, we use acupuncture in conjunction with Western medicine and surgery to offer the best treatment options for your pet. We realize that each pet is an individual and needs to be evaluated and treated for his or her own unique condition. We are successful treating many conditions including arthritis, intervertebral disc disease, spinal conditions, and hip and knee problems.

The initial acupuncture appointment consists of a thorough history, as well as an Eastern and a Western physical examination and treatment if indicated. Behavior tendencies, diet, environment and exercise will be discussed. You can expect to spend at least an hour during the first visit, while following treatments may take between 30 and 45 minutes. Please bring any pertinent prior radiographs, medical charts, and a list of all current foods and medications.

Contact us to discuss whether acupuncture may be helpful for your pet, or email Dr. Arnesen at drarnesen@rivertownanimalhospital.com with any questions you may have.
