Ultrasound allows the veterinarian to evaluate a patient’s internal organs. This important technology enhances our ability to diagnose medical conditions quickly without invasive or painful procedures. Generally, an ultrasound is used in conjunction with physical exam findings and blood work to determine a diagnosis. It allows us to examine the internal organs of the abdomen and to obtain biopsies that can be reviewed by a veterinary pathologist.
As with humans, ultrasound can aid in the diagnosis and management of pregnancy. We also offer echocardiography, an ultrasound of the heart, for the diagnosis and management of heart disease.
As our pets age, they are more prone to medical conditions that may be life-threatening. Ultrasound can be used to screen our senior pets for a wide variety of health problems, including cancer, adrenal disease, liver disease, kidney disease and gastrointestinal problems. Ultrasound screening of senior pets enables us to initiate therapy earlier to help pets live longer and have a better quality of life.
